Food & Fun! All Spearfish High School youth are invited to join us for late night breakfast after the Sno-ball dance! We will serve pancakes, sausage, and juice! All are welcome, even if you do not attend the dance! This is a safe, drug and alcohol FREE event - a great place to hang out after the dance!
We will have karaoke and games available if you want something to do or you can just hang out and eat and visit with your friends!
Cost is $2.00 per person. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time at the school when you buy your Sno-ball ticket or you can purchase them at the door.

Hear from South Dakota native Joyce Glynn as she discusses her personal experience with underage drinking and how her role in introducing a Social Host law is impacting underage drinking in South Dakota.
Panelists will be on hand talking about and answering questions about the impact of allowing underage drinking, social hosting, underage drinking problems in Spearfish and what you can do to help change it!

Susan Hyatt, founder and CEO of Core Thought, a Denver based training company will be presenting nonprofit strategies at a training in Spearfish on Wednesday April 17th at BHSU. The Spearfish Community Coalition in conjuction with the Retired Senior Volunteers Program at BHSU, will host the training which is open to Spearfish community members and the surrounding area. The day will feature the outstanding Susan Hyatt who works with organizations to provide ideas and tools for actively managing ther community impacts and giving stategies. Susan is a four-time award winning author of Strategy for Good: Business Giving Strategies for the 21st Century.
Don't miss this opportunity to hear Susan present strategies for nonprofit organizations to improve their organizational health and marketability.
Funding from the John T. Vucrevich Foundation, Black Hills Power, and the Spearfish Community Coalition has enabled us to offer this training at a very low cost to attendees, just $30.00.

Connect Spearfish, recipient of the CDC's ACHIEVE grant, will host an informational luncheon on Wednesday, April 24th at 11:30 am at the Tretheway Park Pavillion. The purpose of this luncheon will be to share the mission and vision of Connect Spearfish, goals, initiatives and spark interest and feedback from the community. The invitation asks, "What is your Passion?" Connect Spearfish is seeking support for healthy community change and has some exciting initiatives for Spearfish!

We are looking to hire a summer intern with a focus on social media and environmental strategies!
SPEARFISH COMMUNITY COALITION is looking for a dynamic, motivated intern interested in exploring nonprofit coalition work. Qualifications include: Excellent writing and communication skills; Background in Microsoft Office, basic HTML code, Internet searching, social media sites, and other design software is a plus (InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe, etc.); Familiar with various social media applications; Organized and detail oriented; Able to work independently, balance multiple tasks simultaneously and meet set deadlines; Demonstrates interest in coalition work, social media marketing and public relations; Willingness to learn new things; Sense of humor and a hardworking positive attitude; Demonstrates creativity and flexibility and the ability to work well with others; Must be able to commit to 15-20 hrs per week and attend regularly scheduled meetings. We are also looking to hire a Tobacco Prevention Strategist to address tobacco specific strategies through October.
SPEARFISH COMMUNITY COALITION is looking for a Tobacco Prevention Strategist to provide overall support and training to coalition, community, youth, property owners and committees on best approaches for effective prevention strategies and social marketing campaigns. Some duties include, but are not limited to: 1) Develop and train youth/adults in tobacco prevention strategies (2) Assist in creating and training on prevention strategies to raise awareness in the Spearfish community (3) Present/report community trends in youth/community tobacco usage reduction. Grant Funded Contract Ends October 25th. Part-time position; $12-$17 per hour. Pay based on experience and education. Calling all Black Hills Middle and High School Students!
The Spearfish Community Coalition is partnering with the Crow Peak Valley Rangers 4-H Club and 4-H Youth Council Teens to host the 3rd annual Youth Day Leadership Summit. This exciting half day event will kick off with lunch for all attendees followed by an inspiring presentation from Eureka, SD native and former Survivor reality TV contestant Holly Hoffman who will share her motivational message “Never Give Up! The Survivor Way.”
The rest of the afternoon will be filled with active workshops presented by:
Malcom “Chap” Chapman who will lead a hands-on workshop focused on “The Power of Commitment.” Chapman is a former Marine and has served on the Rapid City city council.
Kristi “Cricket” Palmer will lead an interactive session creating awareness for the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. She coordinates the South Dakota National Guard Counterdrug program.
Youth Empowerment Team (YET) members & 4-H Youth Council members who will present substance prevention and leadership activities.
The closing presentation will be led by Vicki Buehler, sharing her story as "Rocky's Mom."
Youth planning to attend the event are asked to pre-register by May 8th.
There is a $10 registration fee which includes lunch, a t-shirt, gift bag, snacks and eligibility for door prizes. (Scholarships will be available - please call for more information)
